Howard Harris (H2)
Interview by Phedra Johnson

Phedra:
Your artistic expressions aren't just conventional photography or painting. Explain how you got interested in computer assisted imagery.

H2: Before I started college I only knew free hand drawing. Then the school I attended, Columbia College Chicago, made it a requirement for all students to take certain classes not directly related to their field, such as photography and graphic design. I loved photography and took another class on my own but built my skills on my own from experimenting. I picked up my computer skills from a few digital illustrations classes I had to take, but a lot of my professional skill on the computer came from spending hours on the computer at home. It was a lot of fun playing around with pictures--it's the reason I love my job.

Phedra: A lot of your work is original jewlery design. Do you accept commisions and can the public purchase your pieces?

H2: The jewelry I design is for a company I work with out in California called, "Iced Out Gear". They tell me what they need each week, then I sketch out a few ideas and take them to the computer. Later they are sent in to be made, but I don't have direct connections with the company that makes the physical pieces.

Phedra: What type of software do you use to generate your artwork?

H2: I use Adobe Photoshop for basically all of my work. I'm in love with that program! It's awesome. The other program I use when necessary is Adobe Illustrator.

Phedra: How do you think technology will continue to effect the world of art?

H2: I think as technology advances, more traditional artists will lean more towards digital art. More and more programs and tools are being created to replicate a traditional look with the convenience of edit options. Of course, those that create art for art sake will always choose the traditional way of creating art.

Phedra: How can our audience learn more about H2 Studios?

H2: Right now anyone can check out my myspace page www.myspace.com/h2infinity where I update my blogs with recent work. I'm a pretty open guy so anyone can feel free to send me a message.

Phedra: Any shout outs?

H2: I'd like to mention my company Xotick Design, website up soon www.xotick.com, also my family label One Shadow records, check them out at www.myspace.com/oneshadow, and the other label I'm a part of N.E.V.A. B.R.O.K.E. Ent. www.mypace.com/nevabroke_ent. Both myspace pages are another H2 creation too.
