Who is King Jus?

I am a positive life force who seeks to empower others via the all powerful tool of Hip Hop Muzik. I believe in self -empowerment, freedom, justice and equality for all members of the human family.

What does music mean to you?

To me, muzik is the ultimate gift. A way to express myself and let others know who I am and what I stand for. My muzik is a reflection of my life, I write from my life experiences, so I hope that people will learn something from my songs that may help them through their own adverse situations, and to let people know that they are not alone when it comes to indifference, or any other situation that life may throw at us at any given time. Muzik is a tool for healing.

Who are some of your musical influences? & Why?

My musical pallet is vast as my mother and sister were always playing music in my house when I was a little boy. Everything from funk to rock to country, r&b, reggae, calypso, classical, top 40…you name it, I was exposed to it….even some heavy metal from my school mates, I listen to anything that moves me. James brown is one of my all time favorites though.

What does " Foundation music" mean to you?

To me foundation muzik is muzik that reminds me of what the purpose of song writing is really about. That being a message that can uplift others while educating them on a certain topic or situation. The foundation is actually our own because we are the authors of whatever energy we put out there and the effect that it has on the listeners. It’s karma, and karma is a reaction to an action.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

Vigorously tryna get whatever I’m going after at that time I’m sure. I have many goals which don’t all necessarily involve muzik, but muzik is always there, it’s what completes me I feel.

How did you get introduced into the Entertainment industry??

I started rhyming with my cousin at around 13 on a serious level, but before that, my family is very musical and I took an interest in instruments at an early age. I played the drums, tenor sax, trumpet, and really enjoyed playing in the school band and noticed the emotion that muzik brought out of people. I was hooked from then.

What do you think of the music scene in Canada? Any tips?

I will speak on hip hop in Canada and say that it’s better now than 5 years ago for hearing Canadian Content. I don’t even like that term, hip hop is hip hop, it’s either dope or wack, doesn’t matter what kind of accent you throw on it. But I feel as If we need to support the artists out here who actually have skillz and make a name for ourselves, put ourselves on the map so to speak, the demographics of Canada are no where near that of the states, so we have to support each other and preserve what is unique to and about us and stop trying to be who or whatever is popular else where. We have great stories to tell and we should take pride in our selves and tell our own stories. The Canadian Entertainment Media needs to cover more hip hop artists and our stories so we can also build an infrastructure like what the states have done over there. Canadian artists need more love at home. My tip ?? Get educated on the business of muzik in Canada or don’t waste your time and money.

Have you performed outside Canada?

Not yet, it’s currently in the works though.

I hear that you are in a cartoon series??? Tell me more?

Yeah, well I also study acting and voice work, and last year I was blessed to land a role in an animated series called “The Dating Guy” which will be on this year on Teletoon in the detour block. I had a lot of fun doing it. I’m used to being in the studio so it was a very natural progression to doing voice work. I’ve done a substantial amount of voice work in the last few years but this is my first series and I encourage all emcees to check it out and see what happens. You never know where hip hop will lead you.

Have you considered Acting?

I do film and television as well. , I’ve always been interested in acting. I did theatre in school, then put it down so I’d have more time to write songs. The difference with acting is that you have to connect to a story that you haven’t written and find the connection in order to make it believable. It’s a very challenging process and I wanted to test my depth so I started taking classes and have stuck to it when I’m not in studio. It’s all an extension of hip hop to me. Art and expression.

Bless.
