Cozmic cat wit king britt

Lady dj Miss Cozmic Cat......a trend setter, a party mogul and a great gal. I had the chance to talk with her about glass blowing, life and times of living in a city that pretends to sleep before halloween.

Any plans for Halloween?

Spinning , and attending the Church street block party

If you could be any super heroin right now...who would you be and why?

.Cozmic Cat- because my Super powers include saving people from dance floor boredom :)

What do you think of the dj scene in the city so far?

im sure there are a ton of "dj scenes" out there in Toronto.. When im in the mood to dance i try to stay very open to all different sounds. Dj-ing is more than a scene to me. its a way of life. i don't wanna get stuck with one scene, its too creatively boring.. i just try to do my thing, and i appreciate others doing the same..

What's your music of choice on the wheels of steel and why?

It's always changes , like i do. i am a person in flux, growing and open to new sounds. i would have to say my sound is rooted in soul and funk and jazz. i really love break beats, and lots of different kinds of house music and fat chunky electro. if i can feel it in my dancing feet, its my favourite!

You have a great following in the city...whats your secret!

I don't have a secret! i promote my Ass off and i love what i do. i think people see that and come out and support, and have a good time. its definitely a combo of working hard and playing hard . oh and maybe its all those drinks i keep buying people ha-ha

Do you have any siblings? Whats your background?

i have 3 sisters. i am halfJamaican and Half Polish. i was born in Canada

Where do you see yourself in 10 years and why?

Either on my own yacht off the coast of Capri spinning tunes as the sun goes down, or fighting over a moldy piece of bread in a Turkish prison. either one seems totally plausible to me. :)

Where did you get your musical start?

Id say my musical career really kicked off at Silk City diner in Philadelphia. i started my own night and booked bands and djs every week. i lost money, i learned the ropes , met a ton of musically minded people and got serious about dj-ing.

So...what does Philadelphia... mean to you and why?

Philly was my home for 10 yrs, and its where i blew up as a dj and came into my own. its a big part of who i am , like the other places i have lived in and learned from..
10.Who would you like to work with in the city and why?

Jason Palma, because i love his classic soulful sound. funny though, it seems i have been blessed to work with so many fantastic and eclectic djs already. im just gonna keep going with the flow, if its meant to be, the right people always seem to end up in the same room vibin' together..

Is there a dj that you have worked with before that has influenced your spinning techniques? and why?

Pretty much all of them !
too many to name. djs have inspired me with their mixing techniques, their cutting and scratching, selection, everything.. Cosmo baker for his selection across the spectrum, Jazzy for his working 2 records to shreds,
Quest love working just off 45s, Rob Paine for holding a consistent vibe and building it steadily throughout the night. i think any dj that spins with another dj and takes nothing away from that experience is not learning. Everyone has something to offer.

Have you played other parts of Canada? & How was it?

i played in ottawa and i was Aces! great party. i spun in hamilton recently as well. i had alot of fun. i think spinning outside of your regular comfort zone is challenging and inspiring. i love to do it.

Can you name a few songs right now that moves the crowd?

Beeper- Sinden
anything by Calvin harris
Stronger -Kanye West
always the classics. always the remixes. and the mashups!

What kind of parties do you check out when your not working?

Dinner parties !:)

I heard...that you are planning to do a party and invite your good friend dj jazzzy jeff....is that true?

No its not. fire your sources !

Whats your connection to jazzy jeff?

He's a fixture on the Philly dj scene, we met a while back out and about. he bought a few of my records, we know mutual people ( Ca$h money, Skooly D,and Jill Scott.) i had the opportunity to spin the opening of a new nightclub called Denim in Philadelphia with him.

Whats your preference....cd's or vinyl? and why?

CDs for portability, vinyl for manipulation and the sound. i am versatile, i just wish vinyl was not so expensive, and heavy to lug around.

Your recent vinyl purchase was?????

A couple of Bob Sinclair twelve inches

thanks dahhling
