Toronto Fashion Incubator Crowned its New Design Genius
Written by Ivy Prosper

Canada’s fashion industry is definitely booming. There are so many creative geniuses waiting to be discovered. Canada’s quality and creative senses have been a part of our design culture since the inception of the Hudson’s Bay Company as a major player in the fur industry.

The country has come a very long way with designers like Lida Biday, Alfred Sung (who originally started Club Monaco), David Dixon, Comrags, Joeffer Caoc, Hilary Radley, and now the latest to be crowned winner of the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s New Label’s event; Katya Revenko for Desperately Different.

The show was sponsored by ELLE Canada magazine and was held in Toronto’s Hazelton Lanes. Four designers competed for the coveted prize. The prizes included $1000 cash, an editorial in Elle Canada and the winning collection will be available for sale at TNT Blu in Hazelton Lanes. (www.tntthenewtrend.com)

The panel of judges for this year’s event included Rita Silvan, Editor-in Chief of ELLE Canada, fashion designer David Dixon, Nathalie Atkinson from the National Post, actress Kristin Booth, and Arie Assaraf, the owner of and buyer for TNT. For over four months the judges have had the opportunity to evaluate each collection based on many areas; if the line has marketability, runway appeal, quality and fit. This designer is sure to soon become a staple in the Canadian Fashion Industry.
